Tees Valley Youth to Lead Climate Action at 2025 Conference
On 22 July 2025, over 100 young people will gather at Redcar and Cleveland College for the second Youth Climate Conference, part of the All Our Futures initiative. Funded by the European Social Fund and The National Lottery Community Fund, the project empowers children, young people, and families to connect with nature and take meaningful climate action.
This year’s conference offers a dynamic programme of interactive workshops designed to inspire and educate. Activities include:
Smoothie Bikes – Demonstrating sustainable energy through pedal-powered blenders.
Climate Debates – Encouraging critical thinking on environmental policies.
Stone Painting – Using art to express environmental messages.
Living Music – Exploring nature through sound and rhythm.
Participants will engage creatively with climate issues and contribute their perspectives on local green initiatives.
Support from Local Stakeholders
The event is strongly backed by key local stakeholders who recognise the importance of empowering young people in the fight against climate change.
Councillor Jemma Joy, Chair of the Environment and Climate Scrutiny Committee, reflected on the lasting impact of youth engagement: “It was inspiring to see so many young people investing their time and energy into learning how to protect our environment. Their enthusiasm and innovative ideas are exactly what we need to drive meaningful change. After all, they are the generation most affected by the climate crisis.”
Erika Marshall, Sustainability Strategic Lead and Group Marketing and Business Engagement Director at the Education Training Collective, emphasised the alignment between the conference and the college’s sustainability goals: “Sustainability is a core priority across our college group. Hosting the Youth Climate Conference not only supports our own green agenda but also provides a vital platform for young people to voice their concerns and contribute to real-world solutions.”
Beth Major, Chief Executive of The Junction Foundation, highlighted the broader mission of the initiative: “We’re proud to help young people turn their climate action ideas into reality. This conference is about more than just discussion—it’s about equipping youth with the tools, confidence, and support to shape local environmental action and protect nature for future generations.”
