Participation & Social Action - Blue Influencer Projects

In 2024, The Junction was secured funding from the Ernest Cook Trust to launch an exciting new initiative — the Blue Influencer Project.

Through this project, we’ve welcomed a dedicated Blue Mentor to our team, who works closely with young people aged 10–14. Together, they design and deliver creative environmental social action projects that help protect and celebrate our natural world — especially our local rivers, coastlines, and other “blue spaces”

The aim? To make caring for the environment a natural part of everyday life. We’re breaking down barriers that stop young people from accessing the outdoors, and empowering them to speak up, take action, and lead change in their own communities.

So far, young people across the Tees Valley have been making waves with some amazing projects, including:

  • Creating a dolphin sculpture from plastic bottle

  • Building a mural from recycled materials

  • Improving local green and blue spaces

  • Producing a nature-inspired soundtrack representing the water cycle

Each of these projects shows the power of youth action — bringing communities together, protecting our planet, and building a cleaner, greener future for everyone.
